Chaucer

Geoffrey Chaucer (c.1340 – 1400)

Best known for The Canterbury Tales (circa 1399), Chaucer wrote in vernacular Middle English at a time when the dominant literary languages in England were French and Latin.

Milton

John Milton (1608 – 1674)

The author of many controversial writings on political, social and religious subjects, Milton’s greatest works were Paradise Lost (1667), Paradise Regained and Samson Agonistes (both 1671), all created when he was totally blind.
