William Hayward was another US Navy veteran and an instructor at the Department of Architecture, University of Pennsylvania in 1958.

Interestingly, he had earlier worked at the firm of competition judge Eero Saarinen in Michigan. Because all judging was done by number, not name, Saarinen did not know his former employee’s entry was in the competition.
