Frank Lennon of the Toronto Star snapped this iconic moment of hockey history – Paul Henderson leaping in the air after scoring Canada’s winning goal against the Soviet Union in game 8 of the 1972 Summit Series.
Millions of Canadians watched as Henderson scored the goal with just 34 seconds left on the clock.
The image earned Frank Lennon a National Newspaper Award.
Toronto Star photographer Bernard Weil caught Donavan Bailey’s reaction moments after he crossed the finish line – winning a gold medal for Canada and setting a 100-metre world record at the Atlanta Olympics. The image became the first photograph taken with a digital camera to win a National Newspaper Award.

Canadian heavyweight boxing champion George Chuvalo takes a left from Muhammad Ali – one of boxing’s greatest heavyweights – in Vancouver.
Although badly cut and bruised, Ali was not able to knock down Chuvalo in the 12 round fight. This was Chuvalo’s last major boxing match.
