Vimy memorial, France

Description

The Canadian National Vimy Memorial was erected in 1936. The iconic white memorial commemorates the Battle of Vimy Ridge and honours the 11,285 Canadians killed in France throughout the First World War who have no known graves. Many historians believe that the battle fought there – Canada's most celebrated military victory – also marks the birth of Canadian national pride.
