This is a scene from the 1850s, depicting the Hoggs Hollow toll gate, situated in North Toronto on Yonge Street near York Mills. The neighbourhood itself is named after the Hogg family, who settled the area in the 1820s. They owned a whiskey distillery and a grist mill.
