About the Toronto Star Photograph Archive

In 2014 the Toronto Public Library received an amazing gift: the complete Toronto Star Photograph Archive. The Toronto Star Photographic Archive represents a century of images published in Canada’s largest daily newspaper. It is a rich resource of documentary images which chronicle local, national, and world events from a Canadian perspective. Over one million images, the archive represents the largest donation of its type in Canada.

The archive covers every major and minor Canadian event, personality and topic that was considered newsworthy over the whole of the 20th century. These images also provide a window into everyday life in Toronto.

The entire archive is now housed at the Marilyn and Charles Baillie Special Collections Centre on the 5th floor of the Toronto Reference Library.
