Entry 054
Hamilton was born Paul Albert Herschan in Vienna in 1924, and came to England as a child refugee in 1939. He changed his name to Paul Hamilton after volunteering for the British Army in 1942. He and fellow student John Bicknell studied at the Architectural Association in London, and later formed a partnership. They were known for their transportation related buildings, and were celebrated for, among others, the Paddington Maintenance Depot Offices (1968). After Bicknell’s death in 1984, the firm continued as the Paul Hamilton Design Group. Hamilton retired in 1994, and died in 2004.
