Tange became one of the foremost architects of Japan, responsible for the reconstruction of Hiroshima after World War II and the building of the Hiroshima Peace Centre and Park. He was a teacher, writer and planner as well as architect, and had great influence on many younger practitioners. Over the course of his career he was a guest professor at several international schools, including MIT, Harvard, Yale and the University of Toronto.
